Big Train Coming
03:38
|
|||
You’ve been working on the family farm for generations now
You haven’t seen a drop of rain all year
Then some guy in the diner says the world is warming up
It’s only going to get much worse I fear
Yeah that’s a big train coming
Yeah a big train coming
You think that’s a light at the end of the tunnel
It’s a big train coming
You pack the family in the truck and drive two hundred miles
And rent a little place outside of town
You get a job that has you packing boxes every day
Within a week they shut the factory down
Yeah that’s a big train coming
Yeah a big train coming
You think that’s a light at the end of the tunnel
It’s a big train coming
At least you’ve got the family till the kids grow up and leave
Then your wife says that she met another guy
You’ve always been a good man
You’ve always done your best
Now you’re all alone and wondering just why, why, why?
It’s a big train coming
Yeah a big train coming
You think that’s a light at the end of tunnel
It’s a big train coming

The River Flows
03:20
|
|||
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows so free
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows ahead for me
Here beneath the stormy weather
Here beneath the blackened sky
Every day and every season
Still the river passes by
It doesn’t matter ‘bout the place you’re coming from
I know of one thing that can help you move along
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows so free
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows ahead for me
If the dark clouds gather over
If the black dog comes around
If the world is closing in
Still there’s one thing that I’ve found
It doesn’t matter ‘bout the place you’re coming from
I know of one thing that can help you move along
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows so free
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows ahead for me
Here beneath the cloud of trouble
Here beneath the cold grey sky
When it all seems like it’s broken
When the only question’s why
It doesn’t matter ‘bout the place you’re coming from
I know of one thing that can help you move along
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows so free
The river flows I don’t know where it goes
The river flows it flows ahead for me

Big Pub in the Sky
03:36
|
|||
After many years of toiling dear Paddy saw the finish line
He sent out for the padre to come and do his work
Now Father Tom was gracious as he lit the final candle
But then he turned to see auld Paddy giving him a smirk
Now I’m not a learned man said Paddy in a whisper
I know I’m going somewhere now and I’m not coming back
Don’t answer me in Latin, use words I understand
Can you tell me Father, what they do in heaven for the craic
I don’t need streets of gold or pearly gates to greet me
I’ll be shaking hands with Jesus when I die
I want to see my loved ones and make peace with all my foes
And neck a pint of porter in the big pub in the sky
Dear padre please assure me that heaven is a green place
Or at least that there’s a chunk of it that looks like Donegal
I realise that other tastes must also be considered
I’m sure the place is big enough to satisfy us all
Will there be sandy beaches and snowfall in the winter
A gentle breeze that blows when the day is getting done
My guess is that the big man is taking care of business
Sure, we can just enjoy the craic and leave it up to Him
I don’t need streets of gold or pearly gates to greet me
I’ll be shaking hands with Jesus when I die
I want to see my loved ones and make peace with all my foes
And neck a pint of porter in the big pub in the sky
I’m not a theologian but I think if God is love
He’s going to have some vino for the boys from Italy
The Scots will have their whisky, the Mexicans tequila
You’ll need a taste of home when you’ll be gone eternally
And surely there’ll be beer for the Germans that are gathered
And vodka for the ladies coming from the East
But will there be champagne, and when will it be served
They’re keeping all the good stuff for the ones they call the least
I don’t need streets of gold or pearly gates to greet me
I’ll be shaking hands with Jesus when I die
I want to see my loved ones and make peace with all my foes
And neck a pint of porter in the big pub in the sky

Brand New Start
03:18
|
|||
It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white
Or even if you’re old and grey
Your travelling days aren’t finished yet
So best be getting on your way
I understand when you say to me
Your world’s been smashed apart
You’re not the first, you’re not the last
To make a brand new start
You don’t know where you’re heading
To a shrink or to a bar
At least you’ve learned that one great truth
You know who your real friends are
I understand when you say to me
Your world’s been smashed apart
You’re not the first, you’re not the last
To make a brand new start
I offer no advice to you
But one thing I’ll impart
I’d be happy to walk some miles with you
When you make a brand new start
Oh the road is steep
Oh the road is long
Oh the road is calling you
I don’t know if you’re right or wrong
Or how you ended up this way
There’s always two sides to every tale
At least that’s what they always say
I understand when you say to me
Your world’s been smashed apart
You’re not the first, you’re not the last
To make a brand new start
I offer no advice to you
But one thing I’ll impart
I’d be happy to walk some miles with you
When you make a brand new start
Oh the road is steep
Oh the road is long
Oh, the road is calling you
I offer no advice to you
But one thing I’d impart
I’d be happy to walk some miles with you
When you make a brand new start

Happening to Me
03:19
|
|||
Woke up today the sun was in my eyes
Can’t shake the blues the news just tells me lies
Stumbled again, struggled to see
These kinds of things keep happening to me
All my life is stormy weather
Every day is toil and trouble
And there ain’t no rhyme or reason far as I can see
I stood my ground from A to Z
But all these things keep happening to me
I got no reason far as I can tell
Another day another carousel
Can’t comprehend what I believe
Why do these things keep happening to me?
All my life is stormy weather
Every day is toil and trouble
And there ain’t no rhyme or reason far as I can see
I stood my ground from A to Z
But all these things keep happening to me
I’ll stand my ground, I’ll stand my ground
I’ll stand my ground, I’ll stand my ground
Until it turns around

King and Country
04:12
|
|||
Did you fight for king and country, learn to hate the other side
Did you question all the reasons they gave for you to die
But when all the streets are empty
The families are all gone
The silent trenches tell us so
The young at heart already old
The price of peace paid in blood and tears
Did you pay the price of freedom, was it worth the sacrifice
Did you live to see the glory, did you find your paradise
But all the fields are red now
The flowers fed by your blood
The silent trenches tell us so
The young at heart already old
The price of peace paid in blood and tears
So I’ll sing to you my brothers buried under sands of war
Oh your sacrifice was noble but we’ve all heard that before
You took your country’s shilling
‘Til your gun would sound no more
The smoke-filled sky as Heaven burns
I guess we’re not the lucky ones
Leaving home, never to return

Fall from Grace
03:27
|
|||
Excuse my observations to a common irritation
The doings of the powerful and the rich
They live with paparazzi shoving cameras in their faces
To show the world their every flaw and twitch
I don’t know much about it
I’ve never been a rich man
I don’t suppose I have a handsome face
They’re darlings for a moment until they do the wrong thing
And then they say they’ve fallen from grace
You can fall off a roof, fall off a mountain
Hang your head and live with your disgrace
You can fall out of love, fall in the gutter
I swear that you can never fall from grace
And then there’s politicians
I’ve never trusted many
They kiss the baby’s head and pose for press
That fine upstanding man has been doing inside trading
He never thought that anyone would guess
And furthermore it seems he made a deal with China
With money paid into a Swiss account
And when it’s time to pay the tax he seems to lose his memory
For he cannot recall the right amount
You can fall off a roof, fall off a mountain
Hang your head and live with your disgrace
You can fall out of love, fall in the gutter
I swear that you can never fall from grace
Now let’s be realistic some preachers are not better
They’re not averse to feathering their nest
We all act surprised when we finally discover
There’s pictures of them partially undressed
On Sunday he’s repented, he says he’s very sorry
The waterworks are flowing as he wails
But just below the pulpit his hands are in the offering
He’s gonna need the cash to pay the bail
You can fall off a roof, fall off a mountain
Hang your head and live with your disgrace
You can fall out of love, fall in the gutter
I swear that you can never fall from grace

We all Have to Row
05:23
|
|||
Storm clouds are gathering over the horizon
We all see them coming, everybody knows
We’re in this boat together no matter what the weather
And if we’re going to make it we all have to row
So haul away lads and lassies too
I cannot do this it’s too hard without each one of you
In a perfect storm the crew can’t hide below
We’re in this boat together and we all have to row
Wild winds toss us and waves smash the bow
If ever we needed each other surely it is now
‘Cos we can make it to the harbour, we know which way to go
So put your backs into it ‘cos we all have to row
So haul away lads and lassies too
I cannot do this it’s too hard without each one of you
In a perfect storm the crew can’t hide below
We’re in this boat together and we all have to row

Best is Yet to Come
04:11
|
|||
There is a hotel with many rooms
Be glad I told you you’ll go there soon
He’ll tell you stories of love and loss
You’ll find a check-in, I’ll pay the cost
Now don’t be troubled, I need to go
On ahead of you, but you should know
I’ve got you covered, the bill’s been paid
So don’t you fret none, don’t be dismayed
Forget the why, forget the how
‘Cos something good is happening now
You’ve muddled through, you’ve struggled some
Prepare yourself, the best is yet to come
The bed’s been made up, the bathroom’s clean
Communication the best you’ve ever seen
Won’t need no wi-fi, you’ll be just fine
The band is playing ‘Jesus on the Mainline’
Forget the why, forget the how
‘Cos something good is happening now
You’ve muddled through, you’ve struggled some
Prepare yourself, the best is yet to come
Oh I, oh I can’t believe I’m leaving
But I know the reason why
Oh I, oh I can’t believe I’m leaving
But this is not goodbye

Yesterday's Rain
04:06
|
|||
I was cursing the day that the good Lord had sent me
There was nothing but trouble piled up at my door
So I walked to a small bar in the heart of the village
I waved to the landlord to serve me a pour
I sat by an auld one, he smiled when he saw me
Says he why the long face on a young pup like you
Says I life is hard, it’s just getting harder
The auld fellow said I’ve a message for you
The cold wind will blow all the sleet and the snow
The dark clouds of anguish will bring each one pain
With a wink of his eye he raised his glass high
This fine glass of whisky was yesterday’s rain
I just shrugged my shoulders as the landlord came over
And served me the glass of my sweet uisge beatha
Pay heed to the wisdom that’s sitting beside you
He whispered to me, then returned to the bar
‘I know you have troubles, I know you have worries
I know that you that you think that you may not get by
But pay some attention for I know the secret
For struggles and hardships you’ll need them, here’s why’
The cold wind will blow all the sleet and the snow
The dark clouds of anguish will bring each one pain
With a wink of his eye he raised his glass high
This fine glass of whisky was yesterday’s rain
‘Now I’m not looking down on the troubles that haunt you
More month at the end of the money for sure
The rent and the petrol, the feeding the family
Are burden enough when the wages are poor’
‘But I’m done? with war, with guns and with bullets
With bombs and with violence, scarred body and mind
But now I thank God that I’m here with you
Sure isn’t it grand that I’ve left that behind’
The cold wind will blow all the sleet and the snow
The dark clouds of anguish will bring each one pain
With a wink of his eye he raised his glass high
This fine glass of whisky was yesterday’s rain
